Over a thousand people rose to their feet as the Relics of St Therese entered York Minster at 6.30pm this evening.

The Dean, Very Revd Keith Jones, greeted the team accompanying the Relics at the West Door and then a procession including representatives from the Carmelite tradition followed. As the casket was carried in there was spontaneous applause.

Margaret Horner is a steward at the Minster and shared: ‘When the doors opened and she was coming in, I got very emotional and I didn’t think that I would. It struck me that the remains of a saint were among us and I was moved by the response from the people gathered. It was overwhelming.’

Meanwhile her husband, David Horner who is also a steward said: ‘It was simply amazing, in particular the number of people who have come for the service.’
